Working in partnership with NHS Lothian, the Breast Cancer Institute needs your support to improve the patient environment at the Edinburgh Breast Unit. The continued increase in the incidence of Breast Cancer, coupled with dramatically increased survival rates mean that there is more pressure than ever on clinical and surgical space. It is now time to adapt our facilities to meet this growing need.

In addition, advances in our understanding of breast cancer result in changes in our approach to treatment. As our treatments change, so must our physical environment. By supporting us you will ensure that not only will our patients continue to benefit from the world class clinical care that is the hallmark of the Breast Unit, but that they will do so in an environment that is comfortable, supportive and designed for purpose.

Support our Research

Because every cancer is different, no two will respond to the same treatment in the same way. Technology now exists to identify the distinguishing molecular structure of each individual cancer leading in time, to the development of a treatment appropriate to it. These ground-breaking advances in our understanding of this disease will enable us to offer far more targeted, and therefore effective, treatments to individual patients.

Support our Training

The Breast Unit’s international reputation as a centre of excellence is due, in large part, to the outstanding quality of its clinical staff. To ensure that this legacy is preserved by the next generation of doctors and nurses, and to share our expertise with professionals from around the UK, we must invest in specialist teaching and training programmes. Our vision is to create a designated breast cancer teaching facility that will enable us to ensure that generations of patients for years to come will benefit from our ever-growing expertise in this field.
